Sørfinnset skole/ the nord land was initiated as a part of The Nordland Counties contemporary art programme Artistic Disturbances in 2003 with the artists Søssa Jørgensen and Geir Tore Holm, Norway and Kamin Lertchaiprasert and Rirkrit Tiravanija, Thailand. Since then has the project developed in a long term dialogue with local people in the village Sørfinnset and visiting artists. Use of natural resources in a wide sense, sharing knowledge and ecological thinking are focus points. The abandoned village school is a base for the project and as with the parallel the land foundation in Thailand constructing buildings is a main activity. By now is a traditional Sami turf house (Goahti), a Thai House constructed and Per Enoksson has designed the tent sauna Hikki. Down in the village is a earth cellar at the moment beeing reconstructed for storing potatoes and other vegetables. In the school there are meetings, meals, lectures and Saturday Café with an experimental kitchen.

LOOKING AT LIFE, Sørfinnset Skole / the nord land
Looking at Life workshop starts Monday July 20th at 10:00 am and aims to put a light on connections between contemporary art, social involvement and ecology/ relations to nature. The workshop is organized by Geir Tore Holm and Søssa Jørgensen in collaboration with Karolin Tampere.
The days will be divided between presentations/ discussions in the morning and excursions/ work after lunch. Dinner at 20:00.
